Sunshine Learning Centre

Our Programs

ABA/IBI

ABA/IBI therapy involves breaking down skills into smaller more manageable tasks, and then teaching each task one at a time using positive reinforcement. Each skill is taught in a methodical and systematic way which allows children to gain basic learning skills first, laying the foundation for the acquisition of more advanced skills in the future. Sunshine Learning Centre Inc. uses the Assessment of Basic Language and Learning Skills (ABLLS) to assess your child’s skill level in areas like academic skills, self-help skills, gross motor skills, and many others. Once your child has completed their initial ABLLS assessment, a program is developed and tailored to meet the individual needs of your child.

OAP Funding

We are pleased to be able to offer ABA/IBI services to families who are receiving the Direct Funding Option (DFO) under the Ontario Autism Program (OAP). Our clinical psychologist Dr. Amanda Morgan (Azarbehi) provides supervision to all of our DFO families, ensuring goals are being met successfully and that all programming and documentation needed to maintain funding is being completed properly and accurately.

Behaviour Consultation

Sometimes a family needs support to address specific issues at home, community, or in the school environment. Sunshine provides consultation services to help support families in addressing challenging behaviours, developing independence and self-help skills, and community-based skills. Sunshine also offers school support in assisting families with IEP goals and development as well as in ensuring families are accessing the support their child needs in the school environment.

Assessment and Diagnosis

Sunshine Learning Centre offers assessment and diagnosis options in partnership with our clinical psychologist Dr. Amanda Morgan (Azarbehi). Comprehensive flat-rate assessments are available including: child developmental, psycho-educational or adult mental health, vocational, & autism spectrum screening. With our on site psychometrist, we are able to maintain flexible appointment times without a wait-list for assessments.

Life Skills Program

Utilizing teaching methodology from the PEERS® program as well as the Assessment of Functional Living Skills (AFLS), this program is geared specifically towards teenagers and young adults with the goal of working on the development of important self-help, independence, and life skills. Conducted in small groups and facilitated by our trained staff, our life skills program focuses on skills such as: cooking, cleaning, laundry, using public transportation, healthy living, hygiene, and many others. This program is offered in 6-week blocks, with each block focusing on a different skill.

After-School Program

Our after-school program offers school aged children an opportunity to participate in socially based programming through engaging activities with their peers. Our arts and crafts program and cooking program encourage the development of sharing, turn taking, conversation skills, and more. With a maximum of eight participants we ensure that our program is offered in a small group environment allowing for support and guidance from our trained staff.
